You are invited to join a unique ride to attend a service and Blessing of the Bikes in Westminster Abbey on Saturday 8th May 2022 , in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first Blessing of the Bikes, and of the 59 Club, a registered church charity, becoming a motorcycle club in 1962.
Meet noon at the Ace
Departs 1pm to Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey Timetable:
2.30/45pm – Congregation to be seated
3pm – Service (of 45mins)
3.45pm – End of Service
4pm – Blessing of the Bikes
4.30pm – Bikes to depart and disperse – back to the Ace!
As parking space is limited at Westminster Abbey, ( if you wish to park your bike) to secure a spot you need to go here.
You do not need to apply if travelling to the Abbey by public transport.
The 59 Club was originally founded as a youth club in 1959 by Father John Oates at The Eton Mission, St. Mary of Eton Church, Hackney, London. Together with a myriad of rock n roll stars, to include such as Cliff Richard (then Britain’s Elvis), the late HRH Princess Margaret RIP officially opened the Club and was the Royal Patron through to her passing
It was following visits by his colleague the late Father Bill Shergold, on his motorcycle, to the then notorious Ace Cafe, and meeting with the “Ton Up Kids”, that in 1962 a service and blessing of the bikes was held at the church. This set the 59 Club on the road to becoming a legend.
