Ace Cafe London hosts the annual London Vintage Taxi Association (LVTA) meet from 10am on Saturday 4th April and, founded in 1978, the London Vintage Taxi Association is the only club in the world dedicated to preserving historic London taxicabs and their commercial vehicle and private hire variants

With London’s first horseless cabs powered by electricity introduced in 1897 and the first petrol–powered cab introduced in 1903, this year 2025, marks the 391st anniversary of when in 1634 a certain Captain Baily put four coaches to work by the Maypole in the Strand, dressed his coachmen in livery and told them what fares to charge. In doing so, he set up what was undoubtedly London’s first cab rank and established a business model that exists worldwide to this day!
