Saturday 6th April
6.30pm ‘til late
Ace Cafe London is hosting the Joe Meek Society’s post AGM free to attend “Saturday Night Special” get-together party, celebrating the unique sounds and talents of the late great Joe Meek with DJs Rockin’ Wolf and Leather Girl Hiroko, and the band “The TR5’s” who, for over two years, have been ripping up stages and capturing hearts and minds with their highly charged blend of 50’s skiffle and early 60’s rock n’ roll!
In the early 60’s Joe Meek had a string of UK No 1s, including “Telstar” which was the first by British artists to top the US charts. Meek pioneered numerous recording techniques in his studio flat (304 Holloway Road in North London) creating a near mythical collection of almost 2,000 reels of the fabled quarter-inch tapes that contained a vast amount of the producer’s work, known as the ‘Tea Chest Tapes’
Cherry Red Records acquired the legendary producer Joe Meek’s ‘Tea Chest Tapes’, they were contained and sold in 67 tea chests, and amongst the recordings are previously unheard songs by David Bowie’s first band The Konrads, recordings by Billy Fury, several songs by Tom Jones, and unheard material from The Honeycombs, Heinz and John Leyton (who had a UK No 1 with Meek)
Working closely with Alan Wilson at Western Star on the tape digitization and mastering side, as well as Pete Rochford and the Joe Meek Society, Cherry Red Records bring these amazing sounds to an audience who have been waiting patiently for many years!
Come along and revel in a mix of the best rock and roll, see you at the Ace!
